Remixed and Remastered in 2025 by allard

The original DAT master had a solid capture, but the usual challenges were there—crowd noise, nearby clapping, and general muddiness in the mix.

To tackle it, I started by separating the band from the audience noise (cheering, singing, etc.). For this, I used an ensemble of MDX23C and Mel Roformer, which did a great job overall. Nearby clapping was harder to filter out cleanly, but the results were still workable.

Once I had the “band stem,” I ran it through other algorithms to break it down into instruments:
Vocals
Guitar + synth (grouped for now)
Drums
Bass

That left me with 5 stems total (4 members and the crowd). From there, I started pre-EQ’ing each stem based on a final mastering curve I’d created while referencing the raw source. This helped get each stem sitting closer to where I wanted it before jumping into the mix.

For the mix itself, I used Adobe Audition, dialing in levels, panning, and some additional dynamic EQ on specific stems to help things sit tighter in the stereo field.

Finally, I moved the whole mix into iZotope Ozone for mastering. Here’s where I fine-tuned the EQ, added subtle compression and limiting, and added some air to the high end for clarity. Once I was happy with the sound, I exported everything to FLAC.

Overall, I’m happy with how it’s shaping up, but I’d love to hear how others deal with tricky crowd noise or clapping that sneaks into the performance. Always looking for ways to refine the workflow!
